Final thoughts on Berstein

I really enjoyed this book. I think the last 100 pages really set the tone for the memoir. He finished the novel with a lot more emotion-the emotion we have discussed being visible absent from the beginning. We see him break down and become empty and frustrated. He begins to unveil that his communist practices were really more of a search for a brotherhood more than anything else. I think this is why the book is particularly effective as a memoir. He is able to build up his emotions slowly and present it as his viewpoint rather than history so we see what it really meant to be a communist in his eyes. To have a niche and to be unique among the masses.
